He is one day old…

My daughter gave birth to her first child yesterday and our hearts are overflowing with gratitude. We are so thankful and blessed. When I finally got to see this tiny little boy, I couldn’t help but marvel at the truth that he is fearfully and wonderfully made. God created his inmost being and knit him together in his mother’s womb. Before he ever took his first breath, God had already ordained his days. From the moment of conception, God was at work, creating this precious life. What an incredible reminder of His power, love, and purpose.
I recently read that newborn babies recognize their mother’s voice from birth because they have been hearing it while in the womb. That thought touched me deeply. Just as God designed babies to recognize the voice of their mother, He created us to recognize His voice. We were made to know Him, to hear Him, and to walk in relationship with Him.
Another beautiful thing is that when a baby is born, one of the first recommendations is skin-to-skin contact. The baby is placed on the mother’s or father’s chest, where it hears familiar voices and feels the comfort of being close. That closeness promotes bonding, security, and connection.
What a picture of God’s heart toward us. He doesn’t want to remain distant. He desires closeness with His children. Scripture tells us that when we draw near to Him, He draws near to us. Just as this newborn finds comfort, peace, and belonging in the presence of his parents, we find our deepest peace and security in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
As I look at my grandson, only one day old, I am reminded that every life is a gift from God. He has been known, loved, and called by God since before his birth. My prayer is that as he grows, he will learn to recognize the voice of the Lord even more clearly than he recognizes the voices around him, and that he will walk closely with the One who created him and loves him beyond measure.
What a joy to welcome this precious little boy, Jaxon, into the world.
